The Indian Science Congress Association is one of the major apex organizations in the State of West Bengal. Known also as ISCA, this apex organization in Kolkata was established with initiative from two renowned British scientists, Professor J. L. Simonsen and Professor P.S. MacMahon. These two founders felt genuinely that India contains all those resources to make huge advancement in the field of modern scientific research. Objects of the Indian Science Congress Association:

Growth of the Indian Science Congress Association:

After the first congress in the year 1914, on the month of January, the Indian Science Congress Association has grown, till date, immensely and it has established itself as a titanic figure in the science scenario of India. On its first congress the total number of scientists were only 105 while according to the latest information available, this organization is currently having member strength of more than ten thousand. Recently, number of papers to be read has enhanced to almost one thousand. This organization has celebrated its silver, golden, diamond and platinum jubilee of its establishment and on every single event of celebration it has opened up new horizons to encourage study, research and application of science in India.

This apex organization in Kolkata gets huge support from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, due to its huge contribution in the arena of scientific cultivation in this nation. Regular participation of foreign students and in depth exchange of views with various foreign scientific academics and associations has definitely added new dimension to the potential of the apex body. In the annual gathering of 1976, introduction of Focal Theme by ISCA was done. This introduction is regarded as one of the most important landmarks in the history of ISCA. With the introduction of this Focal Theme, this association has become a great platform where people from various disciplines can come and contribute to the discussion.
