Official establishment of Calcutta medical college happened by an order from the British Government in 1935. Throughout the whole compound the two most important and notable things are the General Lecture Theatre and Oval.

Till the year 2001, the Calcutta Medical College was affiliated by the University of Calcutta but in the post establishment period of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences
Overall administration of Calcutta Medical College is in the hands of the Government of West Bengal but when it comes to administration of academics and various other inter college activities, then the college administration can be segregated into two parts:
Principal is the main authority of both the parts but Medical Superintendent cum Vice Principal is in charge of the hospital. In his working process Medical Superintendent cum Vice Principal (MSVP) is accordingly assisted by the Deputy Medical Superintendent.
