University of Calcutta offers the students a wide array of courses both for the graduate and post graduate level studies. All these courses can be classified into five broad groups:
The University of Calcutta also offers students a wide range of facilities regarding the study of different languages, such as, Bengali, Arabic, Chinese, Germany, French, Hindi, Pali, Persian, Russian and Urdu. Students can apply to take admission in the certificate or diploma courses, offered on these subjects. One of the most unique features of the University of Calcutta in the field of M.Phil studies is that, it offers an opportunity to the students to do M.Phil on the South and South East Asian studies.
Though the Arts and Humanities faculty of the Calcutta University has attained global recognition due to its excellence and course variety, other programs offered by the University of Calcutta are of equal excellence and diversity. The department of Agricultural Science offers various opportunities to specialize on various subjects, such as: Genetics and Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Chemistry & Soil Science, Plant Physiology and Seed Science & Technology.

Admission Procedure in Courses Offered By Calcutta University
University of Calcutta follows very strict guidelines for admission in both graduate and post graduate level programs. Selection of the students is done completely on the basis of marks, which they have attained in the previous examinations. Once all the applications are submitted, then the admission authority of the University of Calcutta prepares a merit list on the basis of marks obtained by the applicants.
The requirement for minimum marks to apply for desired subjects may vary from department to department. But it has been observed that for Arts and Humanities, students having 45%-50% marks become eligible to apply and for Science subjects the requirement of marks become 50%-55%.
According to the intake capacity students of the respective departments, students get admission, following the merit list.
